Tim Atkinson

Tim Atkinson, during a 33 year coaching tenure, has proven that where he goes success follows. His tenure includes stints at Tiffin Columbian High School, Heidelberg University, Liberty Center High School and most recently at Patrick Henry High School. Tim has a reputation of developing programs and creating winning traditions, at each of the schools he has coached over his 33 year coaching career. During his tenure Coach Atkinson’s teams have won 18 League Championships (4 at Tiffin Columbian and 14 at Liberty Center), 22 District Championships (4 at Tiffin Columbian, 17 at Liberty Center and 1 at Patrick Henry), 18 Regional Championships at Liberty Center, 22 OHSAA State Meet Team Appearances (21 at Liberty Center and 1 at Patrick Henry), 2 Girls Division III State Cross Country Runner-Up finishes at Liberty Center in 2010 & 2021, 3 Girls Division III State Cross Country Championship finishes at Liberty Center in 2011, 2012 & 2013. While at Tiffin Columbian his Lady Tornadoes amassed a four year dual meet record of 36 wins and 1 loss. In addition to the team accomplishments Tim has coached individuals who captured 13 Northwest Ohio Athletic League individual championship finishes, 12 individual District Champions, 3 individual Regional Champions, 20 individuals who have earned All-Ohio Cross Country honors (19 at Liberty Center and 1 at Tiffin Columbian), 4 relay teams that have earned All-Ohio Track & Field honors (3 relay team at Liberty Center and 1 relay team at Patrick Henry), 1 individual who has earned All-Ohio Track & Field honors at Liberty Center, 10 State qualifying relay teams (1 at Tiffin Columbian, 7 at Liberty Center and 2 at Patrick Henry) along with 10 individual State qualifiers (2 at Tiffin Columbian, 7 at Liberty Center and 1 at Patrick Henry), 2 individuals who were 3 times Cross Country State Runner-Up (Briana Shook, Tiffin Columbian, 1995 and Brittany Atkinson, Liberty Center, 2012 & 2014, 1 individual who was a 2 time Cross Country State Champion (Brittany Atkinson, Liberty Center, 2011 & 2013. While the Assistant Track & Field coach at Heidelberg University Coach Atkinson’s athletes set 6 school records along with the first national qualifier in the 10,000 meter run for Heidelberg University. In addition to his team and individual athlete accomplishments Tim has been named the Northwest District Coach of the Year 6 times, recognized by the Northwest District Athletic Board as the 2013 recipient of the Dick Krauss Inspirational Educator Award and he has served on the Midwest Meet of Champions Coaching Staff as the All-Ohio Distance Coach from 2015-2019. Under the direction of Tim Atkinson, his high school and collegiate athletes have been very successful on the personal and team level due to his experience and inspiration as a coach. The Ohio Association of Track & Cross Country Coaches is pleased to recognize and congratulate Tim Atkinson for induction into the 2023 OATCCC Hall of Fame.
