About Milton L. Trubley
Mr.Trubey graduated from Carey High School in 1923. He was a four -sport athlete. Milton served as Captain for his teams in baseball, basketball, and track. His track accomplishments were attained without a school track, without real track shoes, and with limited coaching. Milton and 7 other boys on the team would practice in a field near the town. Milton was the highest individual scorer at Wyandot Co. where he ran 8 races on a slow wet track, .and the Sectional meet where he competed in 6 events. He was undefeated in the 220 yd. dash in high school and held his school record in that event for 50 years. His 220 yd. hurdles record was never broken and it stood until the event was changed in 1938 to the 200 yd. low hurdles. The State meet was held in one day and Milton Trubey ran 3 prelims before the finals in each race. He placed first in the 100 yd. dash (10.4,) first in the 220 yd. dash (23.4) , and fourth in the shot put (39’ 9”). He set the State meet record for Class B in the 220 yd. dash as a 17 year old senior. Milton graduated from Wittenberg University in 1927. Not only did he extend his track winning ways in the sprints, but he further excelled in the javelin (169’ ) and the mile relay (3:40). In 1925 he set the Wittenberg running broad jump record and was on the record setting mile relay.
