About Mike Holloway
It’s a long way from Linmoor Junior High and Mike’s first track meets to the University of Florida, but Mike has had quite a journey. Along the way, the 1977 alumnus from Columbus Linden McKinley helped the Panthers win the State Championship title his senior year by winning both the 120HH and 330LH as well as running a leg on the 440 relay. From Columbus, Mike went to Florida where his Buchholz High School teams (Gainesville) won numerous District and Regional titles along the way to claiming eight State Championship titles. Fast forward to the University of Florida where Mike enters his 20th year with the Gators and his 13th as Head Coach. One of the top programs in the nation, Mike has been named the USTFCCCA Indoor Head Coach of the Year three times (2010, 2011, and 2012) and Outdoor Head Coach of the Year twice (2012 and 2013). In this time, the Gators have won five NCAA titles in Indoor and Outdoor Competition. Numerous SEC titles and East Regional titles have also been a part of the Florida team resume. Individually, athletes have won All American honors over 500 times and more than 50 of those athletes have won individual NCAA titles. Beyond the collegiate level, Mike’s athletes have won Olympic or World Championship medals 27 times including Gold Medalists, Dennis Mitchell and John Capel. Kerron Clement set the World Record in the 400M during the 2005 indoor season. A widely sought after clinician and one of the top coaches of hurdling and sprinting in the world, Mike served as a coach for Team USA at the 2012 London Games coaching the men’s sprints and relays. In 2013, he was the head coach for the U.S. men’s team at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Moscow where American athletes accounted for fourteen medals, four of those gold. Mike and his family still call Columbus home.
