About Larry Topp

Larry Topp began his 43 year coaching tenure at Continental High School in 1981 where he remained until 1985. While at Continental he coached both Cross Country and Track & Field. In 1985 he moved to Minster High School where he has successfully served for the last 38 seasons as the Men’s Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach. During that 38 year period Coach Topp has created both a strong, well respected Division III Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field program. His teams are not only known and respected in Northwest Ohio but across the entire State of Ohio. Over the 38 years Larry has coached at Minster High School his Track & Field teams have won 16 Midwest Athletic Conference team titles, 19 District titles, 9 Regional titles, placed in the top 10 team standings 8 times at the State Championships and captured a Division III Men’s Track & Field Team Championship in 2021. Coach Topp’s Cross Country teams at Minster have been equally impressive winning 13 Midwest Athletic Conference team titles, 10 District titles and have qualified a team to the State Cross Championships on 11 occasions. He has coached well over 100 state qualifiers in 276 different state places. 70 of those events ended with his athletes receiving 1st team All-Ohio honors. In his tenure at Minster, his Track & Field athletes have been 1st team All-Ohio in all 17 events, something very few programs can claim. During his coaching career Coach Topp has been recognized with multiple individual coaching honors at the local, state and national levels. He has been named District 7 Coach of the Year several times, recognized as NFHS State Coach of the Year and named the NFHS Men’s National Track & Field Coach of the Year in 2021. In 2012 Larry received the prestigious OATCCC Fred Dafler State Coach of the Year award for Men’s Track & Field. In addition to his coaching commitments Larry currently serves as an OATCCC District 7 Alternate to the OATCCC Executive Board. His dedication and service to the athletes of the community of Minster has been nothing less than outstanding. Among those in the coaching profession Larry is known a first class individual that is well respected by athletes, parents, administrators and coaches alike. The enthusiasm and dedication to the sports of Cross Country and Track & Field he and his athletes have exemplified over 43 years is applauded and recognized by the OATCCC. It is with pride and honor that the OATCCC recognizes Coach Larry Topp as a 2024 inductee into the OATCCC Hall of Fame. Congratulations Larry!
