About Emily (Edgerton) Pendleton
Emily Pendleton (Edgerton), a 2007 graduate of Woodmore High School, competed in Track & Field under the guidance of her father and coach Mike Pendleton. In addition to Track & Field Emily earned three varsity letters competing for the Woodmore Wildcats Volleyball team. Emily was the first Ohio High School Track & Field athlete, boy or girl, to win the same event four times at the OHSAA State Track & Field Championships. Wearing the navy blue and gold of Woodmore Emily launched her high school career her freshman season (2004) during which Emily captured the D3 girls State Discus title with a mark of 141’9” after winning the Suburban Lakes League, District and Regional Discus titles while adding a third place finish in the Shot Put at the District meet as well. As a sophomore in 2005 she again captured the D3 State Discus title with a mark of 145’2” while also repeating as conference, District and Regional Champion in the Discus adding a 2nd place finish in the Shot Put at the District meet and a 5th place Shot Put finish at the Regional meet. Her junior season in 2006 only brought greater success to Emily. She repeated as the D3 girls State Discus Champion with a mark of 153’7” and added a 4th place state finish in the Shot Put with a mark of 41’ 3 ¾”. Repeating as the conference, District and Regional Discus Champion she added a conference Shot Put title to her Track & Field resume. Then as a senior (2007) Emily again added to her already amazing state title run with a fourth D3 girls State Discus Championship with a mark of 163’4” while improving upon her 2006 state Shot Put performance by placing 2nd with a mark of 42’ 10 ½”. Emily again repeated her conference, District and Regional championships in the Discus and added a second conference Shot Put title. During her high school career Emily won every Discus competition during the traditional season except for three competitions, her freshman season and one her sophomore season. Her senior season she set what is still the state record for all divisions with a Discus throw of 183’3” at Oak Harbor, the farthest in the United States in 2007 by a high school girl. In addition to all the regular season titles, records and earning 6 All-Ohio honors Emily added to her impressive list of accomplishments in the post season. In 2006 she won the Discus competition at the Nike High School Outdoor National Track & Field Championships with a mark of 166’3” then repeated the win with a 2007 mark of 166’6”. She also won the USATF Junior National Championship in 2006 with a mark of 170’6” and then repeated in 2007 with a mark of 162’6”. In 2006 she represented the United States at the Junior World Championships in China. In 2007 she represented the United States in the Pan American Junior Championships in Brazil earning a gold medal. Emily also was selected to compete for Team Ohio at the Midwest Meet of Champions in 2007 and she captured the Discus title with a mark of 168’2”. Emily rounded out her high school accomplishment by being named the 2006-2007 Gatorade National Girls Track & Field High School Athlete of the Year. Upon graduation Emily pursued her athletic career with the University of Michigan. Success followed her as she made an immediate impact and positive impression with the Wolverine Track & Field staff who summed up her 2008 season as follows. “Emily Pendleton just completed her freshman season on the University of Michigan women’s Track & Field team as a thrower, winning the Discus title at the Big 10 Outdoor Championships and qualifying for NCAA’s. She lived up to the hype of being the 2006-07 Gatorade National Girls’ Track & Field Athlete of the Year, a four-time state Discus champion in Ohio, and two-time Nike Outdoor Nationals and USA Junior Outdoor Nationals Discus champion.” While at the University of Michigan Emily was the Big 10 Outdoor Discus champion in 2008 (171’5”) and in 2009 (170’2”), earned All-Big Ten First Team honors in 2008 & 2009, All-Big 10 Second Team honors in 2012, and competed in the 2008 USA Olympic Track & Field Championships, a four time NCAA Qualifier in the Discus and earned 2nd Team All-American honors in 2012 by placing 12th in the Discus at the NCAA National Championships with a mark of 173’2”. Upon graduation Emily competed in several USA Championships before retiring in 2015. In recognition of her outstanding accomplishments as a high school and collegiate athlete, the OATCCC is proud to include Emily Pendleton (Edgerton) as a 2026 OATCCC Hall of Fame Inductee.
