About Dick Scott

Dick Scott was the head cross-country coach and an assistant track coach for Bay Village High School from 1969 to 1981. He led Bay to ten straight Division 1 State Cross-Country meet appearances. His 1976 team won the State Cross-Country title and his 1977 and 1980 teams placed second. From 1974 to 1980 his teams never finished lower than fifth at the State meet. Scott’s cross -country teams won five Regional championships and eight Sectional/District championships. Bay won 11 Southwestern Conference titles and 52 major invitationals under his leadership. His dual meet record was 97 wins and 3 losses. He had a dual meet winning streak of 90 consecutive wins. Mr. Scott started a girls’ program in 1975. They won three SWC titles and had a dual meet record of 28 wins and 0 losses. The girls won 25 invitationals and qualified for the State twice placing 4th and 9th. Dick was the SWC Coach of the Year 10 times and Greater Cleveland Cross-Country Coach of the Year 3 times. In 1983 Dick was inducted into the Baldwin Wallace Athletic Hall of Fame.
