About Charles "Chuck" Kyle

Known as a respected motivational speaker and the author of The Object of the Game, Chuck Kyle has set a standard of personal character to which coaches aspire. A teacher and role model of the OHSAA cornerstones sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity, Chuck’s guiding principle has been “a greater objective than winning is building winning individuals, winners at life.” And won he has! As track coach at St. Ignatius for 40 years, Chuck’s teams have come to define success. Competing at the Division I level, St. Ignatius has won 25 District Championships including the last 20 in a row from 1994-2013. In that same time period, Coach Kyle’s teams have won one Regional Runner- up title, eight Regional Championship titles, the 2005 State Runner-up trophy, and the 2001 State Championship. Chuck has also coached outstanding athletes such as 2001 competitor in three events at the State Championship, Tony Gonzalez. Tony went on to be a #1 draft choice of the Indianapolis Colts. 2001 State Champion in the 800M, Marc Sylvester, still holds the state record in this event at 1:48.93. And finally, pole vaulter, Tim Mack who went on to win the Gold Medal in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. The winner of multiple coaching awards in both football and track, Coach Kyle epitomizes the benefits of hard work, disci- pline, and commitment and is the only inductee into the Hall of Fame for both Football and Track & Field.
