Adriane Blewitt Wilson, a 1998 graduate of Boardman High School, competed in Track & Field under the guidance of legendary OATCCC Hall of Fame Coach Denise Gorski (2023 Inductee). Then upon graduation she continued her career at Ashland University under the direction of legendary Coach Jud Logan another OATCCC Hall of Fame (2002 Inductee) and a 2024 USTFCCC Coaches Hall of Fame Inductee. Wearing the maroon & white of the Boardman Spartans Adriane experienced success in the Shot Put and Discus earning three All-Ohio honors with a state runner-up finish in the Discus with a 145’10” mark in 1998 greatly improving upon her 6th place state finish and 121’10” mark in 1997. In the Shot Put she placed 6th with a 41’0” mark in 1998 after placing 15th with a 35’9.5” mark at the state meet in 1997. Adriane was a three-time regional champion, 2 times in the Discus and 1 time in the Shot Put. In 1997 she placed 1st with a mark of 134’4” then in 1998 she captured her 2nd regional Discus title and set a new regional Discus record with a mark of 148’4”, breaking the previous record of 146’10” record set by Julie Victor of Austintown Fitch (OATCCC Hall of Fame Inductee 2009). In 1998 Adriane also placed 1st in the regional championships with a 41’11” mark in the Shot Put which was a new PR and school record that stood at Boardman High School until 2025. In 1997 Adriane captured the SVC League Discus title with a personal best mark of 153’5”, breaking the existing meet record of 147’11” set by Julie Victor in 1989. Her 153’5” mark set both a new personal best for Adriane and a new Boardman school record that still stands today. In addition to her multiple SVC Championship seasons in both the Shot Put and Discus, multiple District and Regional Championship throws, 3 All-Ohio honors, Adriane was also a four-year letter winner, the 1998 Field MVP at the Salem Invitational, Poland Invitational and Cleveland Heights Relays. In 1998 she was selected to compete for Team Ohio at the Midwest Meet of Champions. For Adriane, the best was yet to come when she continued her throwing career as a collegiate athlete at Ashland University under the guidance of legendary Coach Jud Logan. Wearing the purple & gold of Ashland Adriane became one of the most accomplished throwers in NCAA Division II history becoming a 13-time NCAA Division II All-American (eight outdoors, five indoors) in the shot put, discus, hammer, and weight throw. Adriane captured NCAA Division II titles with three different implements, winning four in the shot put (2002 & 2003 indoor and outdoor), two discus (2001 & 2003 outdoor) and one weight throw (2003 indoor). Her 2003 shot put titles indoor 17.57m (57’7¾”) outdoor 17.54m (57’6½”) both stood for 19 years as NCAA Division II Championship records until they were broken in 2022 by Zada Swoopes (17.71m). In addition to her national titles, she was also a 6-time National Runner-Up and twice named the NCAA Division II Female Indoor “National Athlete of the Year” and a two-time First-Team Academic All-American. Historically, Adriane’s name peppers the NCAA Division II record books. Her outdoor mark of 17.99m (59’¼”) at the Georgia Tech Invitational on May 16, 2003, was an NCAA Division II outdoor record until 2022, and she holds the five best throws, as well as eight of the top 10 in the event. Indoor, she owns the second-best shot put mark in history, a mark that stood as the NCAA Division II record until the 2017 season. She is also the 10th-best performer in the hammer throw in NCAA Division II outdoor history. Adriane still holds Ashland University records in the Indoor Shot Put (58’ 9/5”), Outdoor Shot Put (59’ ¼”) and the Discus (181’1”) – all set in 2003. In her final semester of student teaching in the fall of 2003, Adriane was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and underwent chemo treatments from September 2003 through March 2004. After completing her treatments Adriane competed in the 2004 Olympic Trials where she finished 5th overall. She graduated from Ashland University December 2004. Overall, Adriane has competed three times in the Olympic Trials in the Shot Put and Discus and was ranked for 10 years in the Top 10 for U.S. female shot putters during which time she was the 13th American woman to throw over 60’. In 2004 she was awarded the “Most Courageous Athlete” award by the National Throws Coaches Association, in 2006 she was named the “Most Outstanding Female Shot Put Athlete in NCAA Division II history.” Adriane has obtained her USATF Level 2 Coaching Certification and has been actively involved in coaching throwers. Adriane was chosen to coach the shot and discus for Team Army at the Warrior Games in 2019, 2021-2024 and now works full time for the Army Recovery Care Program as the Operations Specialist for adapted sport events for Team Army. She coached Team USA at the Para Pan Am Games in 2019 and 2023. Adriane was the field and powerlifting coach for Team USA at the 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2023 Invictus Games. She is still competing in the Scottish Highland Games and is a five-time women’s World Champion and has won three Master’s World Championship titles. She is a personal trainer at the Athlete’s Arena Life Performance Fitness Center in South Carolina and actively involved in coaching throwers. In 2013 Adriane was inducted into the Boardman High School Athletic Hall of Fame then in 2018 she was inducted into both the Ashland University and NCAA Division II Athletic Hall of Fame.
