Mark Albaugh (2013)

About Mark Albaugh

If you watched this year’s 2012 State Championship Cross Country Meet, you couldn’t have helped but notice that Claymont was there again – and in both the boys and girls races. Go figure. Spanning a career of 25 years, Mark Albaugh has coached at Dover, Garaway, and Claymont – and won at all three. His positive team building attitude brings out the championship performances in his athletes, and champions they have been. At the league level, Mark’s teams have won 26 cross country championships and nine track titles. There have been 54 All-Ohio Ahtletes. As a coach of women’s cross country, Mark’s teams across the years have won nine District titles and been the Regional Champions eight times. Three times, while at Dover, his girls won State Runner-up titles. It should be noted that all three of those years, they were second only to nationally ranked powerhouse, Beaumont, and that Dover was the only team in the state who could give them a race. Individually, Sarah Montelone won an individual State Runner-up title in 1994. For the boys, there have been 12 District titles and four Regional Championships. Additionally, the boys and girls teams have won six Regional Runner-up titles. In track and field, Mark’s teams have won 10 District Championships and four Regional Championships. There have been 11 individual State Champions including Sarah Montelone who won the 3200M in 1995, and Riki Cerrett who won the 1993 and 1995 800M races with times of 2:12 and 2:13 respectively. Mark has been the league coach of the year 22 times and District COTY 24 times. He has also served the coaches of the East District Track/Cross Country Association as both their Vice-President and their President. He currently serves as the District 5 representative to the OATCCC. Mark still coaches at Claymont HS and resides in Dennison, Ohio.
