Dale T. Hartney

Dale Hartney has coached for over thirty-four years at Columbus Whetstone, Hastings M.S., and Upper Arlington. Dale has had great success in coaching the 800; three women have run 2:16 or better, while Andy Cooper ran 1:56.8. Accordingly, Dale's girls' 4 x 800 teams have qualified for the state meet almost every year. Dale co-coached the state runner-up girls' track team in 1990.
Dale's cross country teams have won invitationals at Lakota, Tiffin, Lancaster, Strongsville, Elder, and Dayton. The boys' teams have won nine league, six district, and five regional chmpionships; the girls have won eleven league, eleven district, five regional, and two state championships (1986 & 1991).

Andy Wolf

Andy Wolf's boys' track teams have compiled an impressive 1,772 wins with only 553 losses during his twenty-six years at Anderson High School. While his boys have won twelve league and five district titles, Andy has been named coach of the year nine times. Two athletes have won state pole vaulting titles and another was national champion in the 3000m steeplechase.
In cross country, Mr. Wolf's boys have a record of 2409 wins and 759 losses while the girls have a record of 1734 wins and 441 losses. Other boys' achievements: 8 league and 43 invitational championships; 5 qualifications to state. Girls' achievements: 12 league, 71 invitational, and 6 district championships; 7 qualifications to state.

Scott Fry

Scott Fry ran at Sandusky Perkins HS where he was coached by John Hinton and Jim Hauser. His high school bests were 8:58 indoors and 8:54.85 outdoors in the two mile. His 3200 time of 8:46.7 led the nation. His best 1600 was 4:08.03. Scott was state champion in the 1600 in 1984 and 1985 and also won the 3200 in 1985.
Scott won many other prestigious meets including the state meet cross country meet in 1983 and 1984, the Kinney, the Golden West, and the Jr. National 5000.
Scott attended the University of Wisconsin where he won five Big Ten events and scored in five NCAA Meets.

Lee Sternberg

Lee Sternberg has coached all-Ohioans such as Mike Dorto, Scott Wyler, and Chris Williamson, plus six others during his twenty-seven years as cross country coach at East Canton HS. Team accomplishments include: 175 wins and 40 losses, 80 invitational,15 league, 17 district (13 in a row), 6 regional, and 1 state championship (1998; state qualifiers 15 of the last 19 years). Mr. Sternberg has also worked as the head of the coaches' poll in his district and often has been a clinician.

Robert Cannon

Robert Cannon was an outstanding jumper at Columbus Eastmoor where he long jumped 23'6" and triple jumped 43'6". Later, Robert excelled at Indiana University where he won 7 Big Ten Championships with bests of 25'9" and 52'7.5". Robert also won the NCAA triple jump and scored in 3 other NCAA Meets, won the TAC triple jump and scored in 4 others, and was a member of the Olympic and World Games Teams.

John W. Hones III

Besides being class valedictorian at Elgin High School, John Jones also won the state 2 mile in 1966 and 1967 and the state cross country meet. His track regional record of 9:12 stood for 20 years. Jones also ran 4:27 in the mile.
After high school, John attended the U. S. Air Force Academy wher he was elected cross country captain for two different years. John ran the 5,000 and 10,000 at the academy and qualified for two Olympic trials.
